Radio communication problems

If your Toro® E-Series OSMAC® system is having radio communication issues, begin troubleshooting the issue by checking the condition of the Receiver/Decoder Module:

  • Check for corrosion on all connectors and pins on the Receiver/Decoder Module.
  • Check all parts on the Receiver/Decoder Module to see if any are hot to the touch.

If the Receiver/Decoder Module exhibits either of the above issues, we recommend repairing it or replacing it with a new one. If the Receiver/Decoder Module is in good condition, continue troubleshooting the issue by checking the configuration of the Receiver/Decoder Module:

  • Make sure the channel select jumpers on the Receiver/Decoder Module are in the correct position. Test the system again if you made a correction.
  • If the issue persists after the channel select jumper correction, or if they were in the correct position to begin with, set all address dip switches on the Receiver/Decoder Module to the OFF position.
  • Change your address to 0.
  • From a handheld radio, run the following sequence: *9 000 7540. This command will turn off all water controlled by the Decoder Module.
  • Watch for a red blinking LED light on the Receiver/Decoder Module after running the sequence.
  • If there is no LED activity, there is a communication problem with the Receiver/Decoder Module and it should be repaired or replaced with a new one.
  • If the LED light does blink, set your address to 255 and set all address dip switches to the ON position.
  • From a handheld radio, run the following sequence: *9 255 7540.
  • Again, watch for LED activity after running the sequence.
  • If there is no LED activity, one of the address dip switches on the Receiver/Decoder Module is faulty, and it should repaired or replaced with a new one.
  • If you do see LED activity after running the sequence, verify that the Receiver/Decoder Module is communicating with the 8-Station Output Boards by following the second half of the instructions on this page.
