NETWORK 8000 HOW-TO: installing/removing a modem

To power down a Network 8000 cabinet, remove one of the two main fuses located towards the bottom inside of the cabinet.


Removal Instructions

  • Turn off power to the satellite cabinet. This can be done by removing the two fuses located at the bottom of the cabinet.
  • Gently unplug the ribbon cable that is connected to the modem.
  • Unplug the Communications Cable from the modem.
  • If your modem is installed in a bracket with mounting slots, then remove the retaining bracket that secures the modem in place
    • Gently slide the modem out of the mounting slots in the bracket. AVOID USING PLIERS TO GRIP THE MODEM AS THIS CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE CIRCUITRY ON THE PC BOARD!
  • If your modem is installed using retaining screws, then remove the 4 mounting screws and simply remove the modem PC board from the satellite cabinet

Installation Instructions

  • Verify that the power to the satellite cabinet is turned off (the two fuses located at the bottom of the cabinet are removed).
  • If your modem is installed in a bracket with mounting slots, then gently slide the modem into the slots in the mounting bracket until the modem PC board engages the ground clip in the rear.
    • Install the retaining bracket that secures the modem in place.
  • If your modem is installed using retaining screws, then hold the modem in place in the satellite cabinet and install the 4 mounting screws in the corners of the modem PC board.
  • Plug the Communications Cable into the modem. Take care to install the connector in the proper direction.
  • Plug the ribbon cable into the modem.
  • Turn power on to the satellite cabinet by installing the two fuses located at the bottom of the cabinet.
