NETWORK 8000 HOW-TO: installing/removing a power supply

To power down a Network 8000 cabinet, remove one of the two main fuses located towards the bottom inside of the cabinet.

Due to its location in the satellite cabinet, the Power Supply is especially prone to water damage from leaking cabinet door weatherstripping. Check for proper water seals and replace as necessary to avoid premature Power Supply failure.

Removal Instructions

  • Turn off power to the satellite cabinet. This can be done by removing the two fuses located at the bottom of the cabinet.
  • Carefully unplug the two ribbon cables from the edge connectors on the Power Supply. **NOTE: Pull the larger connector off as straight as possible. Allowing the connector to twist to one side while unplugging causes damage to the connector pins.
  • Remove the retaining bracket which secures the power supply in place.
  • Slide the Power Supply out of the slots in its mounting bracket.

Installation Instructions

  • Verify that the power to the satellite cabinet is turned off (the two fuses located at the bottom of the cabinet are removed).
  • Inspect the pins on the connectors at the edge of the Power Supply and gently straighten any that are bent and/or misaligned.
  • Carefully slide the Power Supply into the slots in its mounting bracket.
  • Install the retaining bracket which secures the power supply in place.
  • Plug the two ribbon cables into the connectors at the edge of the Power Supply. [Picture]
**NOTE: Take care not to bend or fold any of the connector pins over as the connectors are being plugged into the Power Supply.
  • Verify that the connectors are attached properly and are not shifted over by one pin as this will cause damage to the Power Supply and/or Faceplate.
  • Turn power on to the satellite cabinet by installing the two fuses located at the bottom of the cabinet.
