NETWORK 8000 HOW-TO: configuring transformers & voltages

To power down a Network 8000 cabinet, remove one of the two main fuses located towards the bottom inside of the cabinet.

There are 2 types of transformer configurations that were typically installed in a Network 8000 Satellite.

Configuration 1

  • 1 Large Transformer With the Following Connections.
    • 1 black and 1 white wire for power input.
    • 2 red wires (1 of which has a white stripe) that supply current to the field solenoids.

  • 2 Small Transformers (double-stacked) With 2 Quick-Disconnect Spade Lugs Each that Supply Current to the Power Supply.
    • 1 black and 1 white wire pair on each small transformer for power input.
    • 2 quick-disconnect spade lugs on each small transformer that supply current to the Power Supply.
    • The quick-disconnect lugs have wires connected as follows:
    • 2 grey wires on the first small transformer.
    • 1 yellow and 1 blue wire on the second small transformer.

Configuration 2

  • 1 Combination Transformer With the Following Connections:
    • 1 white, 1 black, 1 brown, and 1 blue wire for power input.
    • 2 red wires (1 of which has a white stripe) that supply current to the field solenoids.
    • 2 orange and 2 violet wires that supply current to the Power Supply.

These transformers can usually be determined to be good or bad by measuring the resistances between the appropriate wires after the transformer has been disconnected from all other devices, wires, etc.
