OSMAC ISSUE: no power or no red LED on decoder module

To power down an OSMAC system, disconnect the 12V and 26V power wires connecting the transformer to the decoder module.

For this issue, you must check that the transformer is producing the proper voltage:

  • With a Voltmeter, measure the voltage between the black and orange wires that feed the decoder module. The voltage should be should be 12-13 volts AC. These wires should be unplugged before testing.
  • Measure the voltage between the black and red wires feeding the decoder module. The voltage should be 24-28 volts AC.
  • If both of these voltages are correct, the decoder module is likely damaged and must be sent in for reconditioning. Create a UPS Shipping Label HERE.
  • If only one of these voltages is correct, the transformer needs to be replaced.
  • If neither of these voltages are correct, the transformer may be damaged, or the power going into the transformer may need to be checked.
