OSMAC ISSUE: one or more stations not turning on or stuck on

To power down an OSMAC system, disconnect the 12V and 26V power wires connecting the transformer to the decoder module.


When experiencing this issue, first troubleshoot the OSMAC Surge Board:

  • Swap the suspected bad surge board with a known operational surge board. If the symptoms follow the original surge board, it must be sent in for reconditioning. Create a UPS Shipping Label HERE.
  • Check the onboard fuse and replace if necessary (3A Slow Blow).
  • Verify that the corresponding TRIAC Board is functional and that the cable connecting the two is functional.
  • Check the station output connectors for corrosion and a strong connection. Also, check the connector pins for corrosion or damage.
  • Also check that the connector pins are free of corrosion or damage.
  • The switches can sometimes be internally damaged. Wiggle the switch for the corresponding bad station to see if the station will come on intermittently.
  • It is common for the switches to seize, which could prevent the signal from passing through properly. If this is the case, send the Surge Board in for reconditioning. Create a UPS Shipping Label HERE.
 

If the issue still exists, troubleshoot the OSMAC TRIAC Board:

  • With the TRIAC board, if you suspect a problem, the simplest thing to do would be to swap it out with a known working one.
  • A Single station not coming on or is stuck on, banks of stations not coming on, (for example, 1-8,9-16, or 17-24) or No stations inside the whole cabinet coming on.
    • Check the fuse that it is not missing or blown. Replace if necessary (4A Slow-Blow). New Replacement fuses can be purchased HERE.
    • Check the connector that the ribbon cable plugs into for corrosion on the pins. Also ensure the the cable is in good shape without any tears or cracks.
    • Check the output contacts on the black connector for debris and corrosion.
