PAR+/MSC+ ISSUE: timing mechanism dead or no power

To power down a PAR+ or MSC+ cabinet, flip the master switch located in between the OSMs to the off position.

To power down a PAR+ ES cabinet, flip the master switch located in next to the transformer to the off position.


If you are experiencing this issue, check the lights on the power supply module:

  • If the right-hand light is off, then the circuit breaker may be blown. Reset it.
  • If it blows again, then there is a short circuit somewhere. One at a time, remove power from the satellite, disconnect the bottom output module from the module above it (flat cable and round wire), reset the circuit breaker, and reapply power. Continue until the short circuit is located. If the breaker still blows, and there are no more output modules connected, then remove power from the satellite, disconnect the 8-position connector at the right-hand end of the power supply module, reset the breaker, and reapply power. If the circuit breaker still blows, then the power supply module should be sent in for reconditioning. Create a UPS Shipping Label HERE.
  • If the right-hand light is off, but the circuit breaker isn’t blown, then remove the power supply module and measure the voltage between the orange wires at the 4-pin connector that feeds it.
  • If you read between 25 and 30 volts AC, then the power supply module should be sent to BoardTronics for reconditioning. Create a UPS Shipping Label HERE.
  • If you read something other than 25 to 30 volts AC, then the problem is with the transformer.
  • If the left-hand light is off, remove the power supply module and measure the voltage between the blue wires at the 4-pin connector that feeds it.
  • If the voltage is 9-10 volts AC, the power supply module should be sent in for reconditioning. Create a UPS Shipping Label HERE.
  • If the voltage is not within 9-10 volts AC range, the problem is with the transformer. New replacement transformers can be purchased HERE.
  • If the left-hand light is on, replace the timing mechanism with a known operational timing mechanism.
  • If the new timing mechanism also appears dead, then the power supply module should be sent in for for reconditioning. HERE
  • If the new timing mechanism works, the original timing mechanism should be sent in for reconditioning. HERE
