VT4 ISSUE: faceplate dead or no power


Before troubleshooting, check for any signs of damage. Make sure that the contact pins on the bottom are free of debris and corrosion.

NOTE: the small wires that run to the regulator must be plugged in to measure voltage. Pin 1 is input, Pin 2 is ground, and Pin 3 is output.

  • Check that the regulator is secure and tight to the cabinet.
  • Check that the proper voltage is going into the regulator's input pin (see diagram below). The voltage should be approximately 17V DC.
  • Check that the voltage regulator is putting out the proper voltage. The voltage should be approximately 5V DC.
  • If 17V is present on the input, and 5V is not present on the output, replace the 5V regulator. New replacement regulators can be purchased HERE.
  • If 17V is not present on the input, troubleshoot the transformer and transformer wiring.
    • Check for proper voltage coming out of the transformer by using a volt-meter. Check for the following voltages: 12V AC between the red and yellow wires; 12V AC between the yellow and white wires; and 24V AC between the red and white wires.
    • Check the fuse between the transformer and faceplate. Typically, this fuse is in line with the wiring and not in its own housing.
    • If the voltages from the transformer are correct, and the fuse is not blown, the faceplate must be sent in for reconditioning. Create a UPS Shipping Label HERE.
    • If the transformer is producing incorrect voltage, check input voltage to the transformer to verify that it is correct (110V AC). If the power going into the transformer is correct, the transformer must be replaced.
